Majolica sea horse sweetmeat dish
Victorian, circa 1890. 4.5ins high by 7ins wide. Majolica sweetmeat dish, modeled as a grey mythological sea horse (hippocampus) with a shell shaped dish resting on its back. Ground naturalistically molded to look like waves. Turquoise glaze to shell interior.

Ochre glaze to underside
with green painted mark.
Condition
Fair. No cracks. No hairlines. Chip to rim of dish
and base by right hoof.
Flaking to hooves,
ears,
mane,
tip of tail,
base
and rim of dish.
Kiln effect: uneven glaze application to interior of dish
and horse.
Old restoration of right hoof
and small part of tail at top.
