Staffordshire girl on back of deer figure

Victorian, circa 1860. 10ins high. Staffordshire figure of a girl riding a deer and holding a sash around its neck as the reins.



One of her arms and two legs of deer are molded free, colorful enamel decoration.





Vent hole to reverse,



old dull mercurial gilt line to base, good creamy glaze with blue tinge.

Condition

Generally good. No cracks. No chips.

Gilt rubbed.





Kiln effect: touch mark to hind leg of deer.



Repaired hairline to back of deer running underneath the girl (still slightly visible),





repair to deer's neck,





restored horns





and a retouched flake to girl's nose.
